Principals Report

Congratulation to our VCE students

Congratulations to all our VCE students. With results arriving last Monday staff were very pleased to see that students have performed very much as expected. Study scores and ENTERs were strong. The top ENTER was a score of 98.5 – a very creditable result indeed.

Volleyball Success

Congratulations to all our Volleyballers. Eleven Eltham High teams competed in the Australian Schools Cup. All our students can be proud of their efforts, their team spirit and their professionalism. Special congratulations go to the Year 7 (Under 14) girls who won their division. There were also a number of very creditable team and individual results. I would like to invite all families to the Volleyball Awards Night, this Wednesday.

Special Arrangements

Classes for students will finish at 12:30 pm this Thursday.

Start Dates for 2004

Please Note: Years 7 to 11 students return to school on Thursday 29th January. Year 7 students will meet in the hall at the start of period 1. Year 12 students return to school on 30th January.

Dedication of the Memorial Garden

Yesterday afternoon (Monday 15th) we dedicated the Memorial Garden with a simple but moving ceremony attended by many of the family and friends of the ten students and staff who are commemorated there. A simple plaque reminds us of those whose contribution to the school was cut off by an untimely death. When you are next at the school, please take the time to walk through the Memorial Garden, which is located between the Science Wing and the Performance Music centre.

Special Award

Our Student Welfare Coordinator, Brendan Monigatti, has won the JagaJaga Community Service Award for 2003. Brendan, who is the shy, retiring type, received this award for his unstinting support for our most disadvantaged students. Brendan’s commitment to the students of our school is well recognised by staff, students and parents and it is very pleasing that Brendan’s hard work, and expertise in his role has been recognised in the wider community.

Award

Our Cleaners (ARC Cleaning) were awarded 2nd place in a National Competition recognizing inclusive employment services.  They were also nominated for a Commonwealth Rehabilitation Services Award having won the NE region award and placed 2nd in this State competition.  Well done, Seb and team.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents and friends of the school for your support over the year. This has been an important, although somewhat disrupted, year in the life of the school. Our new buildings, programs and services for students have been well received. I am looking forward to another positive year in 2004. Enjoy being with your children for the next few weeks. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Paul Rose Principal
