EHS Swimming Sports

This year's EHS Swimming Sports was held as a Twilight Meet at the Greensborough Swimming Pool on Tuesday, 22nd February. In ideal conditions, the standard of competition and the degree of participation by the students was most pleasing. During the course of the evening there were seven school records broken. A highlight of the evening were the clashes between Beth Girbau and Jessica Choong (both girls U15). In three events - the 50m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle and the 200m Individual Medley - both girls went stroke for stroke with only the barest of margins separating them, and both went well under the existing school records. In the 50m Butterfly, the place judges declared it impossible to separate the pair and gave the result as a draw. The new school records were set by:

Beth Girbau     GU15 50m Freestyle (31.02)

     GU15 200m Ind.Medley(2:45.45)

     GU15 200m Freestyle (2:22.7.4)

Northern Zone - Section A

Relay teams a winner for Swim Team

In an exciting day's competition at the Northern Zone (Section A) Swimming Sports at the Greensborough Swimming Pool last Friday 10th March, the EHS swim team finished in 1st place ahead of Mill Park Secondary College by only 3 points. The final aggregate scores for the day were as follows:

Eltham HS

Melbourne HS

Mill Park SC

University HS

Montmorency SC

MacRobertson Girls HS

StHelena SC

Diamond Valley SC

Viewbank SC

The EHS team won the Junior Girls section as well as the Junior Boys section.

While Eltham gained many outstanding individual efforts on the day, it was the overall depth of the team and the team effort in filling all of the relay teams that produced the final result. The Eltham team was down by 29 points before the Freestyle relays and managed to come out 3 points ahead by the end of the program. The Past Students' Association Scholarship was presented at last week's Middle School Assembly. Last year's year 9 students were asked to write about their career aspirations and hopes for the future. The scholarship was shared this year between Shae Skinner and Alistair Parsons. We wish both students well in achieving the goals they have set themselves. Congratulations.

Barry Hutton on behalf of Middle School Co-ordinators and The Past Students' Association.

Following on from the new bus bay arrangements there is now more car parking available in Withers Way along the front of the sports stadium. When visiting the school we ask that you please park in designated parking areas and not on the internal roads. Please under no circumstances park on the grassed areas as this causes unnecessary damage to the grass and compaction of soil under trees that may eventually kill the trees. Anyway, the grass and shade is for students, not for cars. We urge parents to only drop off students in the drop off area near the hall or in the nearby streets. Please do not enter the staff car parking areas.

SCHOOL PHOTOS - The photographers advise that photos will be at the school for distribution to students very early in term 2.

EHS participates in a student accident insurance scheme that we believe provides good value to families. Jardine Lloyd Thompson is the insurer, and the cost of 12 months insurance from 31.3.2000 to 31.3.2001 is $13.00 per student. Details and application forms are available from the school office.

Students, ex-students, parents of students are eligible for the trip and are invited to an Information/Slide night conducted by 'World Expedition' to be held on Tuesday 21st March in the EHS staffroom at 7.30pm. Further information - Contact Julie Buckland at Eltham High on 9439 5111.
