Tuesday 1st August, 2000 Term 3 Week 4
Congratulations go to Leah Daly of Year 9 who has been selected as an Olympic Torch Bearer in the Cranbourne area and also to Jolien Quispel of Year 10 who has been selected as an Escort Runner when the Olympic Torch Relay goes through Mt Dandenong. Eltham High School has a proud record of Olympic involvement and it is good to see that our current students are involved as well.
James Attard of Year 12 has been selected as a member of the Victorian Secondary Schools Cross Country Team.
Accompanying this Newsletter is a brochure from the federal Minister for Education about reporting to parents by schools. The brochure outlines some important information about good practice in reporting. At Eltham High School we are always trying to improve the way that we report to parents. In the annual survey of parent opinion, the value of our reporting practices rates highly and we are pleased that our reporting system meets the needs of the vast majority of parents. But we don’t claim to have got reporting to parents 100% perfect. If there are ways that you think we can improve our reporting to parents please let us know, preferably by writing to the School Council Curriculum Committee care of the school.

Year 7 Girls Soccer
One win, one draw and two losses. This was the final scoreline for the Eltham High School Year 7 Girls Soccer Team at the Northern Zone finals held at Findon Reserve, Mill Park, on Thursday July 27th. The story that this scoreline does not reveal is the courage of all the student teams on a day when the temperature struggled to hit double figures and the venue offered virtually no shelter. Despite these difficult conditions there was not one complaint from the Eltham team members and their commitment to the team was unwavering all day.
The Eltham team lost 0 – 3 to the eventual winners, Viewbank, defeated
Reservoir 2 – 0 (goals to Emma Baker and Jessica Whitechurch), lost 0 – 4 to
Thomastown and drew 0 – 0 with Northcote.
In all, an admirable display of soccer skills and team spirit throughout
the day. Team members: Erica Marsom, Lauren Batty, Jenni Lonsdale,
Maree Lachmund, Susie Smith, Maddy Spawton, Shilo Nielson, Amber Lane, Sally
van der Swartz, Alicia Mathieson, Lauri Fisher, Jessica Whitechurch, Emma
Baker, Vicki Law-Sparkes, Shelly Sforcina, Rita Wollaston and Jessica
Manzie. Thanks to Andy Demetrius and
Pierre Labigang for their assistance with team management and coaching. Max Balchin
